How do you block out fear, you don't, it's what you do with it that matters

Students here at Krav Maga ask about mental exercises that will help them get over
the fear of being physically attacked. My response to them is always the same. Anyone
who says they are not afraid of anything is either crazy or stupid or both. Being
confident that your self-defense training will make it possible to deal with an
attack is a good thing and that is why we train as hard as we can. Fear can be controlled
but not gotten rid of, the same as with anger. The spike of adrenaline that fear
gives us can be a great advantage as it gives us faster reflexes and more strength.

The training to control fear is simple. In class you must concentrate on breathing
and relaxing. Breath out with every movement you do, defense, offense, shadow boxing,
what ever you are doing. Try to get as much air out of you lungs as you can, in
that way your body forces you to breath in. When practicing punches, kicks, or defense
relax between each combo or defense you are doing. Breath and relax remind yourself
constantly until it just becomes automatic.

from KAT
This month we are deep in the trenches of the the Crossfit Games Open. Each Tuesday
a workout is announced, and we have until Sunday to submit our scores. The only
way to train for this is to stay true to the Crossfit ethos: broad, general and
inclusive. We've worked hard to get ready, and so far it as been good hard work
and very exciting. Good luck to all the Crossfit KMSF athletes who are participating.
Please join us on Saturday May 14th for our Intro to Crossfit Seminar. If you are
curious about Crossfit, and want to to know what it is all about, this Seminar is
for you. We will talk about Crossfit principles, get in a Crossfit beginners workout,
and you will have the chance to ask any questions you might have. Everyone is welcome.

Did you know that 40% of San Francisco's homeless are children?
We would like to formally invite you to join us in support of A Home Away from
Homelessness, a nonprofit serving
homeless youth in San Francisco and Marin Counties since 1994.
On Thursday, April 28, ABCey Events will be hosting the Home Away from Homelessness

Celebration at Terra Gallery in San Francisco from 6:00pm-10:00pm.

PLEASE Buy your tickets today and help us make this year an incredible success

This year our theme - Home Away: "Reaching for the Stars" - is built around an
Oscar- style presentation designed to acknowledge and celebrate the amazing accomplishments
of the children in our program. . There will also be a silent/live
auction and sit down dinner. Last year, over 200 people attended and we raised
a record amount for Home Away.
With the National Park Service as our partner, along with nearly 100 volunteers,
the organization provides a variety of educational and outreach programs to more
than 250 homeless and formerly homeless children and 200 families through
three programs: Beach House, School House and Youth Leaders, in San Francisco and
Marin.
Today the ability of non-profits like ours to provide children with a safe haven
- and the educational and life skills required to succeed - is gravely threatened.
Please join us and help us to make a difference in these children's lives.
Home Away has received the Silver SPUR Award from the San Francisco Planning and
Urban Research Association along with many other commendations and awards. Their

When & How did you first hear about Krav Maga?
I use to have an office @union and Laguna in the marina .. and upon walking home
to bay street .I saw the original
training center in the heart of the marina .. OMG .. I want to join sooo bad ..
as I been doing martial arts off and on for
years and got quite bored with it.. but this seemed real different . Explosive .
high energy and effective !..but I held back
cause I thought that spending all day transforming professionals in the area and
then having them see me going full
throttle against an opponent might be giving mix messages .
What's your favorite aspect of Krav Maga training?
that anything goes.. and the empowerment one gets by the training
How long have you been training for and what level have you reached?
I passed the level one test 2.5 years ago .. I have been training at the school
for 3 years now
What's your favorite Krav Maga technique?
I love the concept of bursting . extremely effective .. and knee strikes are very
cool too !
but my favorite always is the kicking, I love kicking !!!!
What's your most memorable Krav Maga test or training story?
My most memorable was when I was taking the level 2 test ,, I did 7 hours.. but
then
my foot "blew out " so I hobbled out .. came back in 20 min later .. but it was
too late .. I already missed a few portions ..
ever hear a grown man cry ? haha ..
I have attempted to re- take it a few times . but always at the last minute I cant
make it for various reasons ..
What's your life like when you're not taking classes?
I workout 3-4 times a week for 2 hrs at a time ..usually downstairs in the weight
and bag room and then off to work at a downtown hotel for the evening shift .On
my days off and any other free time ,I have my own business called Mastery International
that thrived in the nineties but has suffered during the challenges of this economy
. I am a Intl. Master
Trainer of Neuro-linguistic Programming. which is basically the model and study
of human excellence. I am currently
offering monthly Breakthrough trainings at the Fort mason center and just started
offering self mastery trainings to
the hotel industry . I am also an active abolitionists who offers complimentary
self mastery and trauma release trainings
to trafficked adults and youth rescue agencies.
