Don't let your anger distort your judgment.

You are walking home at night on a not so well lit street. A car with several guys,
who probably have been drinking,

slows down as they get to you. They start yelling at you calling you names and insulting
your intelligence. It is normal

to be irritated by such a rude display and if it keeps up, out right anger can take
control of your emotions. Anger is not

a bad thing it sparks adrenalin that can help with speed and power. You still need
to control your emotions so not to do

something that will put you in a worse position. Yelling back or flipping the finger
can only make things worse it is

what these kind of people want. If you just ignore them, get your cell phone out
ready to call 911. There is a greater

chance they will just leave

A Home Away from Homelessness [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=rfujfecab&et=1104670594579&s=6563&e=001_V51nyIaYlTkHrLKzmkMbjGTiV4e0z7k6EGoHstyWK_EV6R3nCNYJw2OZMaqASWhuMUjS6fddTPcSJi5hLeQCONRodVR4JczCSC5IWmzjOc=]

is a non-profit organization that offers three programs to benefit homeless Bay
Area youth. Each program is designed with the premise that education is the most
effective strategy for breaking the cycle of homelessness and reducing poverty.

The School House program gives the kids one-on-one tutoring and case management.
The kids also help cook dinner every evening for a communal dining experience.
They have a "home" to go to everyday after school, a place where they can keep their
favorite possessions, do their homework, make friends and have a sense of family
and community.

The Beach House program, located in the Marin Headlands, gives children a place
to go where they can just be kids.

Our Youth Leadership program helps kids make it through high school and into college.
It was born out of the vision of students who had graduated from the School House
and wanted a program for older teens to help them maintain their academic, social
and emotional gains.

Today the ability of non-profits like ours to provide children with a safe haven
- and the educational and life skills required to succeed - is gravely threatened.
But there is something those of us who have been more fortunate can do to help.
I am writing in hopes that you will become a sponsor of our Anniversary Celebration,
scheduled for April 28, 2011 at Terra in San Francisco.

This year our theme - Home Away: "Reaching for the Stars" - is built around an Oscar-style
presentation designed to acknowledge and celebrate the amazing accomplishments of
the children in our program.

With the New Year fundraising season underway, I know that you will receive many
such requests from nonprofit agencies and I appreciate the difficult decisions
you face in deciding which causes to support. There are compelling reasons why Home
Away deserves your help. Few programs give children the focused attention we do,
and every dollar you donate stays right here in Bay Area. With your help, I know
we can change the lives of many more children.

When and how did you first hear about Krav?
I honestly, don't remember. I think Krav found me. I was in a stage of my life
when I greatly needed a

way to build my confidence and personal power. Krav just landed in my lap.

How long have you been a member and what level have you reached?

I started coming to Krav about 6 years ago, though I have been out of the country
for most of that time.

I would say that I have been in training for about 2.5 of those years. I just tested
into level 4!
What is your favorite class and why?
Fight is my favorite class. It has been the most emotionally challenging of all
the classes I have taken.

And though it remains a challenge I have overcome a debilitating fear about being
hit. Now, I can walk

into class with the knowledge that I can actually learn and improve; and not just
survive the hour.
What is your most memorable training story?

I don't have a favorite training story. I just love the smirk that Barney gets
every time he hears me

pop someone's groin protection.

What's your favorite aspect about training at Krav?

My favorite aspect of training at Krav is growing my personal power. I love feeling
strong, fit and capable

in body and mind. Krav has given me confidence in so many areas of my life. Through
Krav and other work

I am a completely different person than when I began training.
What's your life like when your not taking classes?
I am an artist and dancer. I started my own sustainable women's fashion business
about a year ago (FreeHandFashion.com). I also run a nonprofit that operates in
Guatemala (Calacirya.org). And, my

primary love (outside of Krav) is partner dancing. Five or six nights a week you
can find me dancing

Argentine Tango or Blues.
